This is a great rod for big trout, casting streamers and handling windy, gusty days. The ideal rod for driftboat fishing with large hopper patterns.
A smooth powerful 8-weight. Saltwater applications include bonefish, redfish, and stripers. Great for fishing freshwater streamers with sinking lines as well.

Graphite rods changed the fly fishing industry years ago as new technology made rods lighter and more powerful. Winston's new GVX has taken over as the new king of graphite rods. My personal favorite is the silky smooth 8'6" 4 wt. This exceptional all graphite 4 wt can lay a size 20 PMD so softly on the water that you'll swear it fell naturally from the cloud of spinners that surround you as you fish. It's equally at home on spring creeks where long leaders and light tippet are common, as it is on bigger freestone streams where you may need to boom a 40 foot cast to a big brown feeding beneath an overhanging cottonwood limb. Owning a legendary "green stick" has never been more affordable than it is now with the new GVX series from Winston."
Justin Hartman: Tightline Adventures
"The GVX is a true sweetheart. Winston calls it an all-graphite version of their fast-action Boron line, but don't be fooled - the rod displays enough of that smooth-as-silk IM6/WT feel to make longtime Winston fans smile. If you love throwing dries to rising trout, but you're also looking for a rod that can cast nymphs and small streamers, check out the 9-for-5 GVX. It's a winner." - Sporting Classics Magazine March/April 2011

I took the 9' GVX 5wt 4pc out for a spring creek outing and was really impressed by how responsive the rod is. Soft tip with plenty of power on the bottom end. Very happy with how it fought big fish. Total tippet saver but enough butt to put leather to the fish.
