A CUBA SUPER SLAM!

“Anyone who chases Permit knows that it’s a high stakes game. There are so many things that have to go right in order to get your hand around the sharply forked black tail that we dream of seeing poking up on a shallow flat. It goes without saying that you need to have a rod in your hands that you “really like” when the opportunity to feed one presents itself. For me, the Winston 9 weight Air Salt fits that bill.”Steve Joyce from our friends at Red’s Fly Shop

Winston Bamboo Is Back!

The R.L. Winston Rod Company is thrilled to announce that we have reopened our Bamboo Shop in a new facility in Twin Bridges, Montana.  The old Winston bamboo shop was housed in the original R.L. Winston Rod Company building in downtown Twin Bridges.  On May 7, 2017, a fire started at 3:00 in the morning, destroying the building and all its contents including bamboo rod inventory, machinery and raw materials. Despite this tragic loss, we have been determined to continue our 90-year commitment to the legacy of building the most beautiful, highest performing bamboo fly rods available.

THE NEW WINSTON PURE LIGHT LINE SERIES

Pure Feel.  Pure Presentation.  Pure Fun.

These moderate action rods feature a quick recovery that allows for open loops for fine dry fly presentation along with the ability to generate faster line speed for different conditions.  The slim profile provides a better connection to the rod while the proprietary design puts presentation and tippet protection as the first priority.               Available in 2 thru 5-weight. $850

The news that Winston developed a new selection of light-line rods-The PURE series (2- to 5-weight)—instantly caught my attention because many Winston rods already seem to me light-line-ish, with the feel of rods rated for a line weight less. So I was curious about what these new models would feel like. Based on the 8′ 4-weight I field tested, the PURE delivers pretty much what you’d expect—the light, fluid, responsive feel of a Winston. Only more so.”   Ted Leeson, Fly Fisherman Magazine

Winston PURE Among Top Winners in Yellowstone Angler 4-weight Shootout

The new Winston PURE may have tied for 2nd place in the shootout, but Yellowstone Angler’s Logan Brown, votes it his favorite.

“The new R.L. Winston PURE 8’ #4 rod is my top rod in this year’s Shootout.  From the second I had this rod in my hand, I knew it was something special.  For me this rod is the winner of this year’s Shootout not just based on performance, but also its overall craftsman is second to none.  I love the striking appearance of this rod in the familiar Winston emerald green.  The cork handle is flawless, and the nickel silver hardware on the reel seat is beautiful.  Moreover, this is a rod made here in Montana.  Every year there is a rod that stands out as one I want to own.  This year, the 8’ #4 PURE is that rod!    Logan Brown, Yellowstone Angler

Jeff Currier Tests the New Saltwater AIR on False Albacore

“False albacore are the perfect fly rod fish. They fight hard but not for too long like some of their larger cousins.

I’m extremely pleased with my new 9′ 8wt Saltwater AIR. Once again Winston has set the bar. The new Saltwater Air handles the challenges of saltwater fly fishing yet maintains the traditional Winston feel allowing for effortless tireless seamless casting. I can’t wait to break out the rest of the rod series for more upcoming adventures!”
